Stepping Stones in the Butterfly classroom is a Montessori environment designed specifically for children ages 2½–3, a time of tremendous growth in independence, communication, movement, and self-awareness. Through purposeful, hands-on experiences, children are encouraged to care for themselves, their environment, and one another while developing confidence in their growing abilities.

The Butterfly classroom places a strong emphasis on practical life skills, sensory-motor development, language, toilet learning and body awareness, and independence. Children practice everyday skills such as dressing, washing hands, pouring, caring for their belongings, cleaning up, and participating in classroom routines. They are given opportunities to develop coordination and concentration through purposeful movement and Montessori materials, while rich language experiences support communication, social-emotional development, and growing awareness of their own needs and feelings. In our small classroom community and natural playscape, children have space to explore, move, practice, connect, and grow at their own pace.
